Jonathan Trichter

As the Founding Director of The Pace Poll, Jonathan Trichter conceived of, created and launched an interdisciplinary center at Pace University for qualitative and quantitative survey research on politics and public affairs.  Mr. Trichter was responsible for overseeing and executing all research, analysis, communications strategies, press outreach and other ongoing operations of this major university institute, where he designed, fielded, analyzed, authored and published original opinion research studies.  These studies include the definitive Exit Poll of voters in New York City’s 2005 mayoral election; The official bi-annual tracking study among Lower Manhattan residents on the public response to the rebuilding effort and the redevelopment of Ground Zero; the first-ever New York City study of social capital – a leading measure of civic health and vitality in urban communities; a seminal, annual poll on New York media that adds public opinion to the toolbox of media assessments, measures New Yorkers’ media habits and trust for particular news outlets and initiates a fresh dialog between New Yorkers and their press; an authoritative non-partisan three-part survey among new, first-time voters in the 2004 Presidential Election, conducted in conjunction with Rock the Vote; an influential research project on New Yorkers’ understanding and perceptions of government reform, including State budgeting, lawmaking and governance processes.

The above studies along with Mr. Trichter’s other Pace Poll projects have been cited by principal news sources, such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, CNN, NPR, The Weekly Standard, The New York Post, The Daily News, Newsday, The New York Sun, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Chicago Tribune, The Star-Ledger, NY1, C-SPAN, as well as many local news sources.

Mr. Trichter came to the Pace Poll with a strong research background having polled previously for private corporations, nonprofit organizations and government agencies.  As a senior executive at Global Strategy Group, Inc., a New York City-based survey research company, he conducted political polling and analyses for clients, such as the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), New York Magazine and ABC’s Sunday morning show “This Week,” as well as political candidates, such as New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, former Bronx Borough President and 2001 mayoral candidate Fernando Ferrer, Newark mayoral candidate Cory Booker, and Congressmembers Loretta Sanchez, Linda Sanchez, Charles Rangel, Nydia Velazquez, Carolyn McCarthy and David Wu.

Formerly, Mr. Trichter was a senior account executive at Geto & de Milly Inc., a New York City-based public affairs agency.  At Geto & de Milly he worked on communications strategies and managed research projects for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (Mr. Trichter supervised the polling in conjunction with the Smoke Free Air Act – the City’s campaign to ban smoking in all restaurants and bars); the Abyssinian Baptist Church and Development Corporation; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the American Museum of Natural History; Carnegie Hall; the Bronx Zoo/Wildlife Conservation Park; and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).

In addition, Mr. Trichter has authored op-eds in major local and national print newspapers, including The New York Times, The New York Post, The Daily News and The Washington Times, and he has appeared regularly on WNYC (the largest NPR affiliate in the country) and WNYC’s “The Brian Lehrer Show,” WCBS local evening news, WCBS “Sunday Morning with Marcia Kramer” and C-SPAN.

Mr. Trichter has written on public affairs for The New York Observer, Gotham Gazette and National Review Online.  He wrote a weekly column on politics for the New York Resident, a local city newspaper.  Also, he frequently has contributed commentary on current events for WNYW-TV’s “GoodDay New York” and “Street Talk,” NY1’s “Inside City Hall” and programs on MSNBC, FOX News (including “The O’Reilly Factor” and “Hannity & Colmes”) and the BBC.

Mr. Trichter has lectured at Pace University, The New School and New York University (NYU), where he serves on the advisory Board of NYU’s Political Campaign Management Program.  He received his BA from Emory University.
